Dr. Fidelma Healy Eames, PhD, MSc.(Ed.), B.Ed. is a passionate educator, author, and independent consultant living in Oranmore, Co. Galway (Ireland), whose core philosophy revolves around a simple, yet powerful goal: making learning and life easier.
Fidelma’s mission is dedicated to empowering people—students and adults alike—to develop the crucial mindset and skills required to take ownership of their own learning.
Empowering Learners and Educators
Drawing on her extensive background in teaching, learning, and teacher education, Fidelma began offering practical ‘learning to Learn’ and Wellbeing courses to schools and colleges nationally from 2002. Her commitment to enabling independent learning led to her 2006 publication, ‘Switching on for Learning: A Student Guide to Exam & Career Success,’ which became a core text used by many teachers, parents, and students.
As Director and Lead Education consultant with Study & Careers, her focus today often lies in providing professional development to teachers and leaders, specifically working to facilitate the gifted and talented to reach their full potential. Her recent book, ‘The Gifted Learner: How to Help’ (2023), shares a fascinating and engaging account of the learnings gathered from her research in this area, which also encompasses topics like equity, diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing. Laterally, she has completed a piece of research on the The Twice-Exceptional Learner, a student with a gift and a disability (awaiting publication).
Finding Your Path
Fidelma understands that finding the right direction is a journey, whether you are young or transitioning careers. Her services expanded in 2017 to include crucial support like student career guidance, as well as coaching, personality profiling and mentoring for individuals undergoing career changes. She is highly credentialed, serving as an accredited tester with the British Psychological Society in areas including personality, ability, occupational and emotional intelligence. Excited about people’s futures, her unique course, ‘Matching Personality to Career Choice: a Journey of Exploration,’ is designed to be motivating and inspirational, serving as a catalyst for many to find their niche and forge a new path.
Influencing Policy and Practice
Beyond her direct work with learners and professionals, Dr. Healy Eames remains connected to shaping the future of education. She is adjunct faculty with Hibernia College, where she works as a teacher educator specialising in student placement, and offers a specialist preparation course for those entering the Professional Master’s in Education (PME).
Recently nominated to the UN standing committee representing Business and Professional Women (BPW), Fidelma is a former Senator, Councillor and Education spokesperson. She maintains an active and informed interest in policy and public affairs and regularly contributes to the media.
Aideen is an experienced teaching principal based in Clohanes NS, Doonbeg, Co. Clare. A graduate of Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, she is currently in the process of completing her MEd. degree in Educational Leadership and Management.
Aideen’s experience and skill makes her an ideal associate to work with Study & Careers on their Mock Teacher Education Interview Panels for prospective graduate student teachers. She is the joint author of the Revised Edition of SALF – Primary School Guidelines for Teachers.
An NLP Practitioner and Emotional Intelligence Coach, she is passionate about empowering people through coaching and providing workshops on aspects of health and wellbeing such as Motivation, Exam-related stress, and Sports Performance. She has worked with Dr. Healy Eames delivering seminars and workshops for students and parents. She has supported students referred for anxiety and wellbeing support by Fidelma and her team. She enjoys collaborating with other professions in providing education, relaxation and breakthrough to help create the change people want in their life.
Dr. Terry Connors is an Educator and Organisational Psychologist and leading Executive Coach. Since graduating with a PhD in psychology in 1997, he has coached over 1,000 clients – student and adult – in career, personal and work performance development. He is a BPS assessor for 16PF and specialises in working with the Myers-Briggs model, emotional intelligence, motivational values, careers assessments and 360-degree feedback for personal and performance development.
He is a highly skilled career coach and valued associate of Study & Careers.
Richard Brennan has studied the Alexander Technique since 1983 and has been teaching the technique full time for over 30 years.
An expert on health and wellbeing, he contributed a chapter to Fidelma’s book entitled ‘Managing Stress: Life is not an Emergency’. He works in collaboration with Study & Careers to provide health and wellbeing courses for students and teachers.
Richard has written eight books on the Alexander Technique, posture and health which have been translated into 22 languages including French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Korean and Hebrew. His works include How to Breathe, Change your Posture – Change your Life and The Alexander Workbook. They have sold over 250,000 copies world-wide.
As a qualified member of the National Guild of Hypnotherapist with years of experience behind me, I provide you with a professional, caring and highly personalized service. Over the years I have seen what the mind can do to change a life, and I am looking forward to helping you change yours!
Because of my unique background as an athletic therapist and Pilates instructor I am particularly interested in hypnotherapy for weight loss, persistent (formerly known as chronic) pain and anxiety.
Because mind and body work better together, I also offer holistic sessions where I combine the power of hypnotherapy with physical and exercise therapy.
