Switching on for Learning: A Student’s Guide to Exam & Career Success
Written by Dr. Fidelma Healy Eames & Ms. Sara Hannafin, this text is based on the premise that students learn differently. Beginning with a chapter on helping you to figure out how you learn best, it provides you with a range of strategies to make your study and learning more effective. A smart text, it is written in a reader-friendly, interactive style whereby the separate chapters respond to the learner’s needs as identified in Chapter 1.
It has received strong recognition for its usefulness (see the testimonials below).

‘Switching on for Learning’ is an ideal text to prepare Senior Cycle students for Exams

I have used Dr. Fidelma Healy’s “Switching on for Learning” book with Fifth and Sixth Year students as a basis for dealing with study skills and exam preparation in class groups. The book is very comprehensive and provides enough material for the guidance counsellor or teacher to dip in and choose appropriate strategies for different groups of students, depending on what they need. There is enough in the book for a full term’s worth of study-skills classes and no need to prepare powerpoints or use a computer room. I can recommend it highly.

‘Switching on for Learning’ is an important book for any student preparing to take examinations. It can be read by students and their parents, or can serve as a text for classes designed to teach Study Skills and other self-management strategies’
